"OUTSIDE THE BOX" PROJECT

Faisant écho à ma passion pour les gares de triage et les trains de marchandises, « Outside The Box» est un projet artistique qui se développera dans le cadre d’un séjour d’un an au Canada, de juin 2010 à juin 2011. Sur les traces d’une culture du rail underground typiquement nord-américaine, il retracera la découverte de cet imaginaire, qui s’exprime notamment dans les monikers, ces dessins réalisés à la craie grasse sur le flanc des wagons de marchandises, par les cheminots, les hobos, et certains graffiti-artistes. Mon travail sera constitué d’une série de peintures, dessins, gravures et photographies. Il témoignera de la culture vivace des monikers et autres graffiti, et explorera les paysages du rail nord-américains, dans toute leur diversité: villes et campagnes tout au long des saisons.
Une série d’expositions fera suite à cette aventure ; mais avant cela, une édition sera réalisée sur place, pour présenter mon travail, mes impressions et les rencontres que je ferai. Pour mener à bien ce projet d’édition, je lance un appel à souscription d‘un montant de 20 euros, frais de port inclus: C’est un moyen pour les personnes intéressées par mon projet de s’engager et de soutenir celui-ci. Le livre sera envoyé depuis Montréal aux souscripteurs, au printemps 2011. Le tirage sera limité à 200 exemplaires.

Echoing my passion for yards and freight trains, “Outside The Box” is an art project that will develop during a stay of one year in Canada, from June 2010 to June 2011. On the trail of a typically North American underground railway culture, it will tell the discovery of this culture that expresses itself in monikers, these oil chalk drawings on freight cars, by railwaymen, the hobos, and some graffiti-artists. Glorifying the rail and its trades, adventure and freedom, this culture reflects a fascination for the railroad landscapes, and particularly freight yards.My work will consist of a series of paintings, drawings, engravings and photos. It will reflect the lively culture of monikers and other graffiti, and will explore North American railways landscapes, in all their diversity: urban and rural areas throughout the seasons.
A series of exhibitions will follow this adventure, but before that, an edition will be conducted in Canada, presenting my work, my impressions and the encounters I will do. To accomplish this publishing project, I appeal to subscribe for an amount of 20 euros, shipping included. It will be a means for the persons interested in my project to be involved and to support it. The book will be sent to subscribers from Montreal, during Spring 2011. The edition will be limited to 200 copies.
